No wonder George Santos busted out the baby prop again today

Last month indicted House Republican George Santos was seen wandering the congressional halls with a baby that he admitted wasn’t his, before ditching the baby and running down the halls yelling the “F” word. It was the kind of surreal scene that no one would have believed if there weren’t video.

Well, the baby was back again today, when George Santos made a point of feeding it on the House floor. If you’re cynically thinking that Santos is merely using this baby for a prop on the days when he expects bad news and wants to distract from it, you just might be right.

As it turns out, one of George Santos’ key fundraisers Sam Miele pleaded guilty today to identity theft and wire fraud – the same kinds of crimes that Santos is set to stand trial on. There’s no official word yet on whether Miele will cooperate against Santos, but that seems likely. When you’re pleading guilty you’re looking for a shorter sentence, and the best way to make it even shorter is to cooperate against bigger fish.

This all just keeps getting stranger. But remember, no matter how many weird stunts George Santos engages in, or how bizarre his behavior becomes, none of that is going to help him with his legal troubles. He can’t “antic” his way out of this. Nor can he “stupid” his way out of this. He’s simply going on trial, and going to prison if he’s convicted.
